PVC gumboots or safety shoes? Ordering work footwear for a site team

Which teams need gumboots and which need safety shoes, how to collect sizes for a crew, and what to ask for before you place a bulk order.

The right work footwear depends on where the shift is spent. Water and mud call for gumboots; dry floors, yards and workshops usually call for safety shoes. Many sites need both.

When gumboots make sense

PVC gumboots are for work in water, mud, slurry and wash areas:

  • drains, sewers and sanitation work,
  • concrete and earthwork in wet conditions,
  • wash bays, dairies and farms.

Height matters. A tall boot such as the Tough (14 inch) suits deeper water and slurry; a shorter boot such as the Hunter (9 inch) is lighter for wash areas and wet floors.

When safety shoes make sense

Safety shoes are for factory floors, workshops, yards and dry site work. Look at the sole and the upper for the conditions: the Unicorn and Force have polyurethane soles, and the Avenger is a plain PVC safety shoe.

Ask for the specification sheet

Toe protection, sole properties and any standard depend on the model. If your site or client requires a particular standard, put it in your enquiry and ask for the specification sheet of the model before you order. Options such as a steel toe or an inner lining on the Tough gumboot are confirmed with the quote.

Collecting sizes for a crew

  • List each size with the quantity, for example "7 × 12 pairs, 8 × 20 pairs".
  • Add 5 to 10 percent spare in the most common sizes for new joiners.
  • Keep the same model across the crew so reorders match.

You can send the size list as a file on WhatsApp or by email with your enquiry.
